With Bianca's fierce determination and her drive with her Pokemon, Itsuki is bowled over by her and looks forward to being her friend. |
Calliope's initial shyness reminded Itsuki strongly of Tsubomi--as a result, she felt like she needed to be a lot kinder. That, however, evaporated as they kept talking; she doesn't feel the need to be overly gentle with Calliope at all, now. After seeing her death at the hands of Caliborn, however, Itsuki is especially driven to help keep her safe at any cost once she returns to life. |
Having met Jade because of the girl's bout of homesickness, Itsuki got a glimpse of her more thoughtful side--followed by the bright Jade more people know. They have the same million-watt smile, it seems, and Itsuki loves everyone who can light up a room with their heart. She looks forwards to becoming fast friends with Jade in the future, most definitely. |
Riku seems to be the serious type of person; Itsuki definitely doesn't mind that. She can sympathize with it, having been a strict leader for so long. He's smart; even if it seems rudimentary, the fact that he paired up with another Sigyn healer to make sure he was safe shows something about tactics. She's interested in talking with him more. |

Personality; Itsuki—known as 'Cure Sunshine' in her Precure form, embodies many of the same traits as what she's named after. She's nurturing, bright, and intense.
As student council president of Myoudou Academy Junior High School, Itsuki is in charge of many things. The responsibility is a heavy one, and it is shown that Itsuki takes it very seriously; she describes it as a job where one has to take all the students' concerns as a matter of utmost care. She is stern, but she does take some leeway when she sees that it really matters to others—when Erika is late getting the member list for the Fashion Club, and Erika goes and takes the extra mile to give it to her in person out of school hours, she approves and lets the Fashion Club stay instead of disbanding it. Erika even says that the school has "been much better since you became president!", further showing Itsuki's dedication to making sure the students are happy with the school. This matter is so important to her that when her vice-president is a candidate (in her place, as she's decided not to run because of her Precure responsibilities) and shows that he only cares about girls liking him because of his status, she is upset and crushed at his behavior, reminding him that a president must care after all of the students.
Itsuki's situation as a Precure is unique—because her fairy is one that is dedicated to protecting the Heart Tree in particular, she doesn't have many of the usual attacks a Precure has. Potpourri (her fairy) shows to have a power over shields, and that extends to Itsuki as Cure Sunshine, as well as her purpose. She explains that she wants to help protect people—her brother in particular when she first becomes Cure Sunshine. This is was qualifies her as a Precure in the first place; this is what triggers Potpourri to really know that her heart is worthy of becoming a Precure. Throughout the rest of the series, Itsuki is shown to have the desire to protect and help everyone she can, from wanting to bring back light into her brother's life to wanting nurture a friendship with a shy girl who looks up to her.
It doesn't matter if she's needed or even expected to be there—as the student council president, she makes sure she's always there in times of emergency. When there is a Desertrian inhabiting the school, she goes back inside the school herself to bring out any student she can find that is suffering from shock or that's hurt in the consequences. She's not part of the Gardening Club, but when it starts to rain with harsh wind, she's there with the rest of the members to make sure that the garden implant stays and isn't blown away. Even if it's not particularly her job or her project, Itsuki wants to protect her friends' and her classmates' hard work.
When Itsuki was little, her older brother was deemed too sickly to take on the Myoudouin Style of martial arts; as a result, Itsuki chose to inherit it instead. To do that, since it was only passed down to the men of the family, she chose to dress and act as a boy. Her brother has always been a source of inspiration to Itsuki, and in particular, was partly her inspiration for her Precure identity, as well. As a child, her brother always smiled, even if he was plagued by sickness—he taught Itsuki to be the same way, to embrace the light and warmth of the sun. She has a vibrant memory of stretching and greeting the sun when she was little and teary-eyed, with her older brother urging her to do so; that memory reminds her of how she wants to bring the light back to her brother's life when he struggles, and urges her to bring light into anyone's heart that has been plagued by sadness.
As the inheriter of the Myoudouin style, Itsuki takes her martial arts very seriously. It is not a hobby, it is not something forced upon her; it is her passion. Before Itsuki was truly friends with Erika and Tsubomi, she shut herself off from expressing any girliness at all. She was so stubborn about meeting expectations as a 'boy' who could inherit the Myoudouin that she was untrue to herself, and tried to narrow herself down to become that male figure that she believed she should be. "In order to become an amazing martial artist like Onii-sama, I can't say that I like cute things! I want to drink tea and dress up like a normal girl!" she laments when she turns into a Desertrian. It takes a while for her to actually realize that she can like cute things and martial arts; it's a struggle, from her becoming a Desertrian to really joining the fashion club and making her own clothes for her to actually open up and declare that both make her expressly herself; that she can like both and that they're not mutually exclusive.
The only thing that makes her as happy as martial arts is fashion and cute things; she is as invested in the Fashion Club as she is in her martial arts. Part of her desire to show off her more feminine side is shown in her transformation, as she gains knee-length long hair and a midriff-bearing Precure uniform. Although she isn't the best at drawing her fashions out, she is determined and interested in making her own clothes; when she suddenly gets an idea for a design, she sits herself down and sketches it without any chance of distraction. Whatever she throws herself into, she does it with a smile, and with every single fiber of her being.
